TV GUIDE: Star Trek
12x8 oil on panel, black floater frame
To my dearest fellow-Trekkies … My sincerest greetings, and the very warmest of welcomes to you, you magnificent bastards. I feel certain we shall all, very shortly, be very fast friends, indeed. May you all live long and prosper. (I’m saluting you, Vulcan-style, with fingers spread). Now that we’ve gotten ourselves settled in at the “nerd’s table”, put the kettle on and the biscuits out … let's all give a collective side-eye to those knob-ends, sitting at the "cool kids" table.
I’m not entirely sure why I typed the above intro with a British accent, but it might be because, this is the point at which we get to feel superior to anyone who isn’t a Trekkie and has no idea what we’re talking about. We’re so awesome. (This is also the part where we judge people who aren’t fans of Star Trek. Those wankers).
And don’t you just LOVE Spock? Pfft. Dumb question. Let me try again: HOW MUCH do you love Spock? If you’re anything like me, it’s more than Ferengi’s love Latinum. And I, for one, find it endearing that Spock looks like he never had a slice of funfetti cake in his life. He’s a little tired of the Doc’s shit, and I love that about him. He’s one of my all-time favorite characters in the franchise.
I even love to use his catchphrase “fascinating” whenever my husband does something annoying … here’s an example: “You say you love me, then you leave toast crumbs in the butter. Fascinating.”
Now let’s all give ourselves a final minute to judge all those fuckers who are judging us for being “sci-fi nerds”. Those smug bastards have issues.
